            Lovely dress sommerkind.

I have to laugh at myself for trying to read the German before realizing that there was an English version lower down the page! (My German is terrible, two semesters in college taught me less than translating my songs for voice lessons.)

Just finished this dress, "prairie girl" by Favorite Things. I added some small bust darts on the sides as well as darts up the back to draw the waist in. Next time I'll cut the shoulders so they don't hang off my shoulders. The fabric is a thrifted bedsheet! Nice and cool for summertime!

                Nice placement of the fabric!

I made this skirt today, part of a sewalong (Ramonster's Skirt tutorial) posted in the SMS blog, week of June 7-11.

What I liked: Learning to shirr. My nieces have a lot of sundresses in their future. Smiley

What I disliked: Reminding myself that women who weigh more than 120 pounds have no business in a dirndl skirt. Ever. There is no such thing as "less poofy".

Also, curvy = difficult to fit an elastic waist. I made the waistband big enough to fit over my hips, and it was too loose at the waist. Which made it hang poorly.

Oh well. I'm still grateful for the learning experience. And I made this long/wide enough that I can salvage it into an A-line.

I completed my first sewing project for this challenge.  I used a pattern/tutorial I found on your site.  Here is a link to my blog post about it:  http://kickert.info/beth/2010/06/11/sewing-envy-decreased/.  I am pretty pleased with myself.  Thanks for the challenge and getting me motivated to move forward with sewing!

Made using leftover fabric. She loved the zebra print. It looks cute on her.

Beautiful fabric choice.  We all have items we make that we are unhappy with yet we learn a little more about sewing or about what works and doesn't work for us.   I still say, great job on it.
