Library Book Bag Ideas

    Library Book Bag Ideas
    on: September 04, 2008, 12:21:59 PM
My children love the library and every time we go we leave with about 40 books.  About 28 fit in my bag and I am left carrying the rest.  I'd like to sew a pretty, bigger and creative bag.  Does any one have a good tutorial out there for a bag like this?  Does any one have suggestions on how to make it strong enough?  I would rather not use canvas but maybe I will need something that thick.  Ideas or suggestions?

I'm a fan of messenger bags myself... These ones were fairly simple to do...

But I bet that totes would work too...  These were my very first sewn bags...

Or you could even add a gusset and or closure to the top(like a zipper, magnet, or snaps/buttons).  Craftster.org has a bunch of great tutes here.  I'd be happy to help and answer questions if you'd like...  Good luck!

I made some using old towels and a thicker twill tape handle.  They are very strong.  I have a similar problem at the library and for a very long time found the best option for my family was to bring a laundry hamper.  We would fill it at the library and at home they knew where to store the books.  Recently my children wanted their own library cards so I have changed to a small tote bag each and we still store them at home in the same laundry hamper only at home the tote and cards stay with the hamper.

Thanks for the suggestions.  LOL on the hamper. I could see that working well here but I would hate to lug it to the library!  I am sort of thinking of making a tote for me, and two smaller ones for the kids so that they can at least carry a few each to ease the load.  Thanks!
