Colour Matching ideas needed

I just bought half a yard of Alexander Henry's Gallo (mexican hens on a tea coloured background) and am turning this into a tote bag for the mother in law for Christmas - I just can't decide on which type/colour fabric to do the bottom half of the bag in! You help/ideas are required

Its going to be my first two fabric tote- so any pointers appreciated! 

You have quite a few choices with that fabric! If it were me, I'd go solid to not clash with the print.. I'd go for the bright pink or orange in the bird's beaks.

I would actually suggest a BLUE or GRAY to match the other parts of the chickens so that the PINKS and ORANGES pop.  You could always go with a linen or canvas that's slightly darker than the background color of your chicken fabric.    The only advice I have on totes is to definately use interfacing--it feels so much better and looks fabulous--especially if the two fabrics will have different weights.  Have fun!

Thanks for your ideas - I was thinking of a linen myself - as I just love the texture, but thought the colour might be a bit too samey.

I shall go on a hunt for a grey-ish/brown linen and I'll post the pictures here when I'm finished!
OOO - Actually I have some grey/blue hessian now I think that will look rather cool.....(off I trot to the fabric box......)

All finished! I used The Wasp Bag pattern, my second ever bag - I'm really pleased how this turned out.
