Ideas for finishing a quilt?

    Ideas for finishing a quilt?
    on: September 06, 2008, 07:27:26 AM
I have a near finished quilt top and am getting psyched up in quilt it. I've only quilted one other time and I made diamonds. What would you suggest for this quilt top? I based it off another quilt I found online but it had really cool fluid freemotion shapes which I'm definitely not ready for. Also what color thread would you use? Cream like the materials or Brown like the strips.  I could also just do ties, but I'm not sure if that's too "simple" for this quilt.

The quilt will also have a brown border which will bring the finished size to a tiny ~30"x36" - just right for a baby boy.

    Thanks for your help!

      Pretty!!

Whether you are quilting by hand or machine, you can certainly use as many colors as you like for the quilting. I often do that, in order to maintain the high contrast of the design. Otherwise, I have been using a lot of the Star variegated threads.

http://www.redrockthreads.com/star-thread/star-thread-50wt.asp - those are the best prices I have ever seen! I just paid $10 for a spool here!

Your quilt is beautiful!  I could see feathers or a vine-type pattern in the dark areas and a stitch in the ditch or one quarter from the seam in the patchwork area.  What a gorgeous quilt...however it's quilted you have done a fine job!  Thanks for sharing.
