How to Prepare Linen for Bag or Tote

How to Prepare Linen for Bag or Tote
    on: July 03, 2010, 02:05:33 PM
    Hello!

Would you be so kind as to give me your input in regards to using linen for a bag or tote?

I love the look of linen but hate to lose the firmness and crispness of the fabric when I wash it.  Is it absolutely nec. to pre-wash?  Or does using interfacing redeem the "pre-washed" look?  Although after ironing a newly washed, damp piece of linen it still looks wrinkly!

If I were to sell the bags, would it be fair to not prewash to keep that crisp look and say "spot clean only?".

Thank you so much for your input!  It's been a treat to go beyond quilting fabric for a change.

Yes, I think it's perfectly fine to not wash the linen and to mention the spot washing when selling the bags.
If that is the look that you are going for and you are specific on how to clean the bags, then I don't see that it would be a problem at all especially since it's bags.
Clothing might be another matter altogether.
