Trying something new.........

Hi everybody! I'm new on here and have only ever made simple things before, like easy clothing or curtains! I wanted to share this bag with you because i'm so proud that I managed it, since I am self taught from books at the local library. The book I used is called Hip Handbags by Valerie Van Arsdale Shrader.

looks good. what is the decoration on the front? is it beaded?

Thanks very much. I'm adding a close up pic of the front. It was a bit of the cord you get to do piping on cushions that I sewed onto the front with zig zag stitch. Then I sewed a few beads here and there. The pictures arent that good to be honest, it looks much better in real life. All new kind of stuff for me, I only ever make easy stuff like cushion covers or curtains or really easy clothes patterns! The material was from an old coat that was too big for me but I wanted to practice and not have it cost the earth - if I had known it was going to work out so well i'd have bought nice stuff to do it with! Never mind I will have to make another now! Its not really a bright look at me bag because it's only to put my phone, keys and tissues in when I collect my little boy from school. I didnt want to be too noticable!

I have just been reading your blog. The little dress looks fab! Did you put the elastic into the sleeves for Bellie? It would look so cute if you did! I'm thinking that I should have a go using that tut I just need a little girl to sew it for!

thanks! i did not. i ended up leaving it out so she can wear it over a long sleeve t and leggings when the weather turns colder.

Thats a really great idea, I hadn't thought of that!

This is awesome.  I tried out a new bag recently too!  It was a lot of fun!
