Which Burda Magazine??

    Which Burda Magazine??
    on: July 13, 2010, 05:06:20 PM
I'm looking to spend birthday money on a sewing magazine subscription.  I'm curious about anyone's opinion on Burda World of Fashion.  The reviews that I read on Amazon made it sound like most of the patterns were for plus size women.  Is this true?  I'm also looking at SewNews or Threads.

    Anyone have a favorite?? Thanks!

BurdaStyle (formerly Burda World of Fashion, but not to be confused with the Burdastyle website which is different) does have plus patterns in it, but they represent only a portion of the patterns offered every month.  The translation of the directions can be a little fishy at times, but the diagrams and the markings on the patterns are great.  It will take you time to trace out patterns and add seam allowances, but the patterns are worth it, in my opinion.

Threads and SewNews are just general sewing magazines; they do not have patterns in them like Burda.  They are both great magazines, but I find that I can read through them at my library and get what I need out of them.

Rochelle....I recently became aware of this forum so I am sorry I did not reply to you sooner. I get the "Burda Style"
magazine & like it for ideas & the patterns. However both
the Sew News & the Threads are my fav.s for help, ideas and projects. I keep all my sewing mag.s and have found them
very usefull when I need help & no one is here for that. The Threads  have been a lifesaver in that dept. for some advanced projects but so is Sew News. It depends on the problem you have. Now that I do more sewing, I find the online "burda Style" and am doing pats. I see there that are
        featured in the book..
