What do you do with your scraps?

Hello!  I really enjoy english paper piecing.  The most common, I believe, is the hexagon.  The "tumbler" (aka "thimble") shape is fun.  There is a diamond shape that I will do eventually too.

There is a tutorial here:  http://www.craftstylish.com/item/8335/how-to-english-paper-piecing-project
    and here:  http://ajpadilla.com/tutorials/english-paper-piecing

    Example projects are here: http://quiltville.com/hexagons.shtml
    and here: http://www.ciaspalette.com/patterns/06/englishhexagons.html

The best thing about english paper piecing is that it's COMPLETELY portable.  If you have an extra 10-20 minutes waiting for an appointment, just take out your small bag of fabric pieces and tempates and go to work!  Before you know it, you will have a nice table topper or quilt.

Have you ever hear of the binky patrol???  They are nation wide and make blankets for children in need.  I run a chapter here in Ca. and I have a link on my blog...  but anyway they will always take your scraps and make a blanket for children in need!

I love scraps!!  I only like using scraps because I think using large pieces of fabric is waaaay too big a commitment for me!!  I hit the jackpot at a yard sale and bought someone's stash of scraps for way cheap (and a whole bolt of black fabric too, which was cool).  I am currently making this quilt using those scraps and the black fabric as the background fabric:

I am glad someone mentioned Etsy for scraps, that looks like fun.  But I was spoiled with my yard sale find, so the ones on Etsy seem expensive Smiley Smiley Smiley Since I don't use whole pieces of fabric, I don't create my own scraps, plus I like the variety I get from other people then I would have from myself.

Anywho, thanks for all the ideas!!

          Besides accumulate more???
I use them for small projects..and every so often, go through them and donate to a local quilt retreat that occurs twice a year.. Those gals will snatch up any and all scraps.

Heaps of really good ideas on this thread!

Leftover flannel makes great hot water bottle covers and I love making covered buttons which is a great, satisfying way of using really small scraps.

I wish I were more creative or enjoyed quilting, but since I'm neither I freecycle them. I never have any problem getting rid of them.

I let my girls have them, they tie them together to make ropes, and scarves and all kinds of fun stuff.

I usually save up my scraps for a while and then use them for quilting. Otherwise it is great to use it for dish clothes.. Smiley it can also be great to make clothing for dolls to your kids.

Would anyone be interested in a scrap swap? I would love to do one.

I am an avid paper crafter as well as sewing nut.  I love the little bits of fabric.  With a bit of vliesofix they are ironed straight onto scrapbooking layouts and other paper items eg card, bookmarks, and of course provide clothing for my paper dolls

I think a scrap swap sounds fun-I've hosted swaps through my blog before and they've always been fun!

I like to use scraps for appliques on my kids' shirts!

The possibilities with scrap are endless :0)  My friend and I just hosted a scrap swap ans I reeieved tons of fun goodies made from the scraps I sent my 2 partners!!  I made fabric baskets, and a pincushion per partner.

I think someone already mentioned this but my daughter's preschool takes scraps for the open ended art table.  They use all sorts of things for any type of crafty project they like!

A scrap swap would be so much fun!

I am a new gal to sewing/embroidery/etc. I don't use a machine (having it done by hand makes it easier to transport), but def. already accumulating scraps. I am using them on mixed-media artwork, scrap booking, art journals, mini books, applique, jewelry (like necklaces and bracelets)...

I actually got a bag of scraps from a local quilt making for cancer patients group... it was a decently full trash bag. I really love to resuse/recycle, make small things (or large things out of this and that) so scraps are perfect for me.

Of course, winning fabric for FFF (free fabric friday) is fun too... I'm eyeing from Erin Michael's Lush series... either wood grain bark, wood grain sky, or painters palette sky... Smiley http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=667
