Hand painted fabric

    Hand painted fabric

A couple of years ago, I received several yards of hand-painted fabric that my grandmother bought in Key West in the 70s.  It's never been used, and I've finally decided what to do with it.  Only problem is that I'm a little scared.

I'd like to make purses for my sisters-in-law and sister.  This requires interfacing and ironing, etc.  (I typically use iron-on interfacing.)  Anyone used "vintage" hand-painted fabrics?  Anything I should be wary about or avoid?

    Thanks!

It's hard to say how the fabric will behave since it is vintage and you don't know the history of its making and so forth.  I think the best way to go about it is to cut off a little bit and iron on your interfacing.  If it feels weird or is difficult to sew, consider using a sew in interfacing.  Canvas or denim are both nice options for interfacing bags.

Thanks so much, Elizabeth.  Why didn't I think of that?  *smile*
