    I NEED THIS MACHINE!!! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE!!!

    I am new to sewing BUT I LOVE IT! I am working with a used hand-me-down sewing machine and do not yet have a serger. It's just not in the budget right now.  I am a SAHM of 4 kiddos - 3 of which will be starting school in the next 3 years! I need to get busy NOW starting on their new school clothes, lunch bags, backpacks and the LOADS of teacher gifts that I am going to need!

    I would love for my kids to be in clothes they are proud to wear... not that look "homemade". This will be the only way for them to have clothes that look like they came off the rack at their favorite store and not from their crazy beginning-to-sew mama!  Roll Eyes

    And if time allows, I would love to start selling items that I make! Having this machine would open up doors for our family!!

    I need a machine that will keep up with me like this Husqvarna Viking s21 Serger! I would be beyond blessed to win this serger!!

    THANK YOU!  Kiss April

      Why a serger would make my life better.

      We have our first baby (a girl) due on Christmas eve and right now both my husband and I work full-time.  A serger would give me some of the ability to create more things for her (clothes especially) much faster then I can now.  A serger would help my baby be super stylish in the clothes her mama could make her.

        At the age of 24, my husband was in a motorcycle accident which left him a paraplegic.  He has to use braces on his legs which make it very difficult for him to find clothing that fits.  Among other things, braces require him to wear special (and EXPENSIVE) tights underneath or he gets pressure sores and etc.  Due to his limited clothing options, I have tried to make him things on my own.  Unfortunately many of the items are made with jersey and other stretch knits which my machine simply cannot sew adequately for his needs.

        This is why I would ask to win this serger.  Just the thought of being able to surprise him with clothes that actually fit him chokes me up!

        Are there people more deserving?  I don't know.  That is not for me to decide!  All I can say is that we have been through a lot emotionally and financially and that this serger would help us to cut a large chunk of our yearly costs on Christopher's special clothing needs.  Plus it will help me to give him back some of his dignity by making things that actually look like a man of 30 would wear.

        Thanks for the opportunity!
        <3,
        Melinda

          I am sitting here trying to put into words why I could use this heavenly machine.  My eyes are drawn to the post beneath my own.  I am a pastor's wife and mother to a beautiful baby boy.  I make tons of our clothes and household items, costumes, and things for our church.  But none of my reasons compare to the need of Melinda (mvelusc).  I am in tears reading her post about her husband.  The thought that she would be able to surprise him with clothing that fits brings tears to my eyes.  So I can not imagine anyone more deserving of a machine.  What true devotion to want something so simple for her spouse.

            Dear Husqvarna Viking s21 Serger,

            Can I call you Husqie for short?  I guess it's probably too informal since you don't even know where your home will be yet.  I'd love to have you come and stay with me.  I think we'd get along - although I've never lived with a serger before.

            I'll be honest: I'm scared to sew clothes.  The thought of having to sew a seam and then zig-zag over it is a little daunting.  I love sewing, but who wants to sew the same seam multiple times?  Especially when I have no practice sewing clothes...I don't want to invest a lot of time to end up with something that doesn't fit.  That just seems silly...So I've stayed away from even the most popular clothing products.  I even cut out the pattern pieces for Amy Butler's lounge pants and then got scared away.  I think together we could conquer my fear.  I have sewed a few clothes for my friend's kids - but the time commitment prevents me from making more.

            I have no kids of my own to make an impassioned plea for me...my apartment is just me and my sewing machine.  We'd love for you to come and join us.  My biggest concern is that my sewing machine might get jealous.  She's a hand-me down from my mother who replaced her with a newer machine.  She doesn't realize that a serger doesn't replace a sewing machine - just lets each one do what they do best.  I think once she meets you she'll warm right up.

            Hope to see you soon,
            Jennifer

              I am an amateur sewist of moderate skill and great passion, with aspirations of building a business out of creating baby clothes and accessories. My dream is to work from home so that as my new hubby and I grow our family and I become a mom I can be with my kids but still draw some income. In the process of expanding my skills, I have developed a determined obsession to acquire a great serger...that's where you come in! Enjoy my little rhyme about my serger Christmas tragedy, and please consider me for this wonderful give-away!

              It seems to me that these unseemly seams,
              Produce a lot of frazzling strings!
              I know that these seams could be so much nicer,
              If only this sewist had a new Viking serger!

              I’d hoped for a serger on this Christmas past,
              I thought that for sure I would get one at last.
              I put all my dreams in my little serger basket,
              But I’m afraid that my basket turned into a casket.

              I asked my dear hunny, so nice and so sweet,
              I baked him lovely things to eat.
              I dropped my hints, I made my list,
              I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.

              But when I awoke on Christmas day,
              Filled with glee at the hope that I may,
              At last have a serger ‘neath my glorious tree,
              Alas, no serger was waiting for me.

              What, in its place, did my dear hubby buy?
              What, may you ask, brought a tear to my eye?
              No, it wasn’t a serger, oh how I did steam,
              That man bought me an elliptical machine!!!

              “What meanest this?!? I’m too fat? I’m too flabby?
              It’s called ‘more to love’, doesn’t that make you happy?
              Where is the serger? Oh, where is my joy?
              Don’t you know Christmas gifts are supposed to be toys!”

              So, alas here I sit, on my mountainous beast,
              I do not enjoy him, no, not in the least.
              And Christmas again does quickly approach,
              But I’ve learned with my hubby there isn’t a hope.

              So to you I am turning, in you I must trust,
              To make right this wrong, to undo the unjust.
              I’m hoping and praying, and I know you won’t fail,
              To bring a good ending to my sad serger tale.

              (This is indeed a true story. But in his defense, my sweet hubby has only the best of intentions and he loves me "just the way I am."  Wink)

                When I first wrote this post, it had about half a dozen of reasons why a new serger would make my life easier. As I pondered on the things I wrote, I realized that none of those reasons are that unique or special. That's why I deleted most of what I wrote and decided to only share how a new serger would make someone else's life easier...

                ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                People often tell me that I should be selling the things that I make for my family or friends. But the truth is, I enjoy making things without expecting anything but a 'thank you' in return.
                I love to give. I know I mentioned giving to my friends and family. But there are also people who I've never met, but would love to help in any way I can.
                Being a mom of 4, I know how precious children are and how special the mother-child bond can be. There are many ways to develop and strengthen that bond, and one of them is by keeping your baby close to you in a sling type carrier. I carried all my babies and still enjoy doing it(youngest one is just 3 months old). But not every mother can afford a carrier, especially mothers who end up in women's shelters and family crisis centers. There's one center that I know of in the city where I live, and I'm working on making and donating stretchy wrap carriers to mothers who wish to be more connected to their babies or toddlers while going through hard times in their lives. I want to make sure that my wraps are not just pieces of fabric cut to the right length and width, but carefully and lovingly created (serged) slings handcrafted by someone who looks for a way to make a small difference in their lives.
                And I'll be honest, not winning this serger is not going to stop me Smiley
                  My dear friend, Trish, home schooled her daughters, teaching them as much about home work and farm living as she did about English and math.  The girls milk goats, make pies and are great seamstresses; they sell their flannel quilts and other creations at flea markets and on the Internet. I inherited more fabric than I can ever use from my mother, and shared bags full with Trish and the girls -- we loved going through the bags and thinking up projects.
                  Unfortunately, Trish died last summer after a long battle with cancer, but the girls (now 17 and 18) have taken everything she taught them and have been running the household for their dad and their 9-year-old brother.  They are my heroes.
                  I actually had a Husqvarna Viking serger that I loved; I  used it for years on everything from totebags to bridesmaid dresses.  But as my life changed, I found I just wasn't using it too much; I knew the girls could use the serger to make their sewing quicker and easier, so I passed it on to them.  Do I regret giving them my serger?  No, not one bit.  Do I miss it? Oh yes, especially since I have started sewing once again.  Would I like to win this serger?  Of course, especially since I know what a quality machine it is, and how it changes the art of sewing for the home seamstress!
                        I am almost through breast cancer treatment and I took sewing lessons a couple of years ago and fell in love with sewing, fabrics, and notions again. I would use my serger to finish edges and seams and make the most complete, well-designed, head covers that folks undergoing chemo in Charlottesville, VA will love to wear.
                        P.S. If you don’t choose me please choose Lara Florczak and I will use it at her house.
                          At the beginning of 2010, my mom and I were planning on opening an etsy shop with the plan of being able to expand to a brick and mortar store later. My mom made all of my clothes until I was in middle school and I grew up with a love of creating. My husband and I got pregnant with our third child (and our third girl!), and that has caused us to postpone our shop plans. I have an almost three-year-old, a 20 month old, and this bean is due in November. I have very high risk pregnancies which cause me to be on bed rest from the beginning, among many other treatments. What has kept me both sane and frustrated during this time has been dreaming about our future shop. I attempt to make clothes, nursery items, and household decor (curtains, for example), but I often feel like my items are unpolished because of what I have to work with. I'm not saying that a serger would raise my sewing expertise, but it would certainly give us a huge boost for the shop we've been looking forward to, and I can practice on things for my family that I can be proud of. Plus, winning the serger would definitely be a hugely happy moment in what has been a stressful and sometimes scary pregnancy.
                          Thank you for your consideration. This is an amazing contest.
                            I don't have a creative, catch your eye entry. I don't have a blog and I'm not overly computer savvy.  I just have a need and a dream.  My daughter and I are starting a craft business.  Several projects we
                            would like to do will require a serger.  My daughter is about to give birth to her
                            third child which will make her the mom of three little girls, all under the
                            age of 3!  I am a part time minister-- part time by choice so that I can help my
                            daughter, son-in-law, and, most importantly, be able to spend time with my grandbabies.  A serger will aid us in fulfilling our dream!  Not catchy, or cute, but heartfelt nonetheless.
                              How would my life be better? No more time spent finishing seams! (I can't let anything be worn without finished seams.) Easy to use for knits! The Viking serger looks like a dream machine. Smiley
