Help me identify this Singer?

    Help me identify this Singer?
    on: September 17, 2008, 10:14:16 AM
Hi, y'all... this is my first post here. I have a sewing question and knew exactly where to come with it!

I'm trying to identify (and decide if I want to buy) a certain Singer machine.

Can anyone tell me about it? Is it good, bad, otherwise? Of course I'd like to test drive it before I pay cash, but it would be great to hear from folks who have actually had some experience using it.

    More info on my blog.

    Thanks!

I think I've figured it out to be a Singer 6268. Opinions?

Singers have traditionally been reliable machines, but I don't know the recent history of their production (some decades could have been less stellar). I think the best test would be to try it out and see how it does on a variety of different fabrics and thicknesses. Keep in mind what you will be sewing most often--clothes? quilts? home dec projects? Whatever it will be, put the most weight on how it performs on those fabrics.

My main concern when picking a machine is how consistent it will be. One break down won't kill me, it is the constant adjusting of the tension, or re-threading, or knotting up of the bobbin thread that really put the last nail in the coffin, so to speak.

          Thanks!

It's actually at 6267, and it seems to be in very good shape. I tested it out over the weekend, and will probably be buying it today.
