    Elastic Cord
    on: September 20, 2008, 01:27:22 PM
I am trying to find beige elastic cord.  I have this winter coat I absolutely love but the cord that runs through the hood has become stretched out after washing and looks awful.  I thought if I could replace the cord I might get at least another season out of the coat, but I can't seam to find such a thing anywhere.  Does anyone know where I could look?  My local fabric store doesn't seem to carry anything like it, and I've tried searching on ebay, but maybe I'm calling it by the wrong name?  Does anyone know where I could get such a thing?  Or, conversely, is there something else I could run through the hood that would look similar?  Thanks for your help!

If you can find the cord, you can make a very narrow stretch tube out of a matching cotton. But it on the bias and sew enough bias cuts together to get it the correct length. Sew a narrow tube. Use a tube turner (available from Joann's) and voila you have a stretchy cord substitute!

PS I have mentioned Joanne's a lot but I don't work there. I am, however, putting some J. executive's kids through school with all my grocery money I spend there. I just like J. for the basics that you can buy with a coupon. Most of my fabric is purchased online.

Thanks, Page for the great idea!  I never did find the cord so I will have to give this a try.  We actually don't have Joanne's here, but I am sure I can find a tube turner at my local fabric store.  Thanks!
