    sewing classes

Has anyone out there taken any college courses for sewing and dressmaking?  I live in an area where there is NOTHING near me, and I can't exactly move.  Any tips or ideas for me to learn more?  My husband suggested looking for textbooks online, and I've been doing that, but any other thoughts?  Should I look at local store classes?

I've only been sewing for a few months right now and my only real knowledge comes from 7th grade Home Ec...and let's just say, that's been a few years.  Smiley

Thanks for any ideas and suggestions!

There are so may great tutorials with simple projects and skills that you can follow online for free. I would start with those instead of trying to find lessons.
      I would find one that:
      • appeals & interests you- you are more likely to stick and follow through with something that holds your attention.
      • has enough photos & instructions you can easily follow
      • is at your skill level
I also find that the #1 obstacle with new sewers is that they really don't know how to use their sewing machines. Pick a simple project that will not only teach you a new skill, but gets you using your machine. And the only way to get to know your machine is to keep your manual out & practice, practice, practice!

Patternreview.com has online classes available.  While I haven't actually taken one, the topics always seem like something I could benefit from.
