Help with knits

    Help with knits
    on: September 12, 2010, 03:55:16 PM
I am sewing the Maya dress from Mod Kid Boutique.  I am using knits however the fabric I selected for the sleeve cuff and waist is stripped with the grain along the length of the stripe (vertical).  I would prefer for it to run horizontal but there is a note in the cutting instructions stating "it is very important to place the pattern pieces as indicated so the stretch of the fabric will be in the right direction."
I am new to sewing with knits and I am wondering what other people's thoughts are on fudging this piece?
    Thanks

The areas that you mentioned really need to have the stretch go in a certain direction or else the cuff will not retain it's shape. The cuff & waist will likely stretch out after time and you will loose elasticity.
Could you find a coordinating knit for these pieces?
