I could use a critique of my first tries at fabric design

Hi all...

I have recently taken up sewing with a passion and am starting to try my hand at fabric design. What I could really use is a bit fo feedback as I start doing this. I have them up at Spoonflower -- most of them are not for sale, so not fishing here.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi!
I really like the giraffe carousel ones. The giraffes and dots ones I found a bit too busy and hard on the eye for my taste. I also like that they are pretty much gender neutral. Good job, I wouldn't know where to start designing fabric but I have no problem buying it!!!

Thanks a lot. I have a tendency toward the insanely busy. Believe it or not that is way toned down from what I do over in print design land. I think that is a line I am going to have to be careful of crossing: the busy/boring line.

The funky carousel works well in both colorways. I think the giraffe dots really only work well in the orange colorway. Probably because the dots are just a lighter orange so they don't compete with the giraffes. I would also consider other ways to make the design repeat or change the direction or size of the dots versus the giraffes. These prints would make colorful and fun baby gifts. And if you matched them to Kona solids then you could really get a good thing going.

Thanks so much. Great advice on colors.

I will re-look at the dots as well...

Again, thanks; still feeling my way around as I make a bit of a career change...

The giraffes are really cute! The concentric diamonds are kinda loud and also remind me of a recent heather bailey fabric, so that is kind of not new.

But the animals are adorable and I'd buy them for sure!
