Roman Shade Parts

Hello,
I'm planning on making some roman shades and I know where I can buy dowels.  But where would I buy the cord goes through that makes the shade go up and down (sorry I don't know what it is called)?

I'm in the UK so it may be a little different over here, but you can usually buy the cord (or hoops if you prefer) for your roman blinds in a fabric store that sells home dec weight fabrics or department stores which have a haberdashery section.  Alternatively, look online for curtain making equipment or similar and I'm sure you'll find what you need.

I have made several roman blinds for my house and the key is to keep it simple.

 I use plastic Roman blind batting rather than wooden dowels and rather than fussing around with expensive hardware I buy loops that screw into the wood that your curtain is attached to and run the cord through that and down the side. I generally plait the cord to make it look nice and have a nifty little thing for it to wide around when the blinds are up.
