Removing ink from a quilt in progress

Removing ink from a quilt in progress
    on: September 23, 2010, 04:45:53 PM
I have done something very stupid. I've got ink (black, Quink, supposedly washable) on a quilt I'm making for my cousin's wedding. I'm at the quilting stage, so I've already invested quite a lot of time, energy and emotional attachment into it.

I've rinsed it, and a little bit of ink has come out, but not very much at all. I don't want to put it in the washing machine as I've not yet finished the quilt and don't want to damage it by machine washing it before it's ready, but I don't want the stains to set in. Of course, it's a white and yellow quilt - ideal for showing black marks...

I could just keep on quilting and then wash it later, but I can't bear to see these black flecks all over it. Has anyone got any suggestions? Should I just keep going and ignore them for the time being and hope it'll all come out in the wash? Should I try rubbing alcohol before putting any more work in? Or should I just give up now <sobs> ?

Is there a local quilt shop nearby?  I would call and ask them.  They might have suggestions or you could talk to a dry cleaner.  They might be able to spot treat it even though it is not yet finished.  Good luck - let us know how it goes!

A quilter friend had a similar problem where one of her quilts got some water damage & rust on it. She thought it was ruined, but continued anyway. She stuck it in the wash after she was finished and it all washed out without a trace of rust.

I wouldn't give-up! Just finish it, wash it and cross your fingers. If it still doesn't come out, you can always try another solution. In this day and age, there's gotta be something that'll work!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'll keep going, and let you know what (if) anything works!
