Help! To repair non-working Sears or Upgrade?

    Help! To repair non-working Sears or Upgrade?

    My basic Sears machine died today--maybe it is stuck in bobbin wind mode, maybe the gears no longer connect (is that possible?).  It needed the button-holer fixed anyway, but now it does nothing.  I would love to have a machine that does more, but am practical, too.  Should I fix it or should I research an upgrade?  What upgrade would you suggest for me?  I sew garments, slip-covers, bags, small quilts, etc.  Please advise.
