Where to buy tracing paper rolls?

Where to buy tracing paper rolls?
    on: October 16, 2008, 06:37:17 PM
The only fabric store near me is JoAnn and they looked at me like I had 3 heads when I said I wanted to buy tracing paper for tracing patterns.  I remember I bought some packaged Burda one a long time ago, and I've mail ordered "Swedish tracing paper" rolls before.  I need some more... do people have recommendations of places to get it? I'd rather mail order from somewhere where I would mail order more than just one thing to make the shipping worth it.

    Thanks!

I've never order from them, but this looks like a great deal:

I've thought about ordering it from them before.

Try an office supply or art supply store....architects use rolls of tracing paper. My husband has several different widths...

Also, you should try a medical supply store.  The paper rolls that they use to line the examining tables works great and it is pretty cheap!

I use mostly patterns from a british magazine, and I just use freezer paper.  I am Canadian, and I cross the border every weekend in the summer, and I bought mine at either a grocery store, or Wal-mart.  I was at a grocery store up here this week that sold it as well.

It is a bit thicker than tracing paper, but if it is something that you think you are going to sew multiple times, then the freezer paper is perfect,  and not to mention cheap.

I use the paper that is used on manicurist's tables.  Close to the same thing as physician's paper; it's  kinda  shiny/slick on one side and matte on the other.  I've also seen it called "waxing paper" or "massage paper".  It comes in 2 widths - I think 20" and something wider.  A zillion-foot (or so) long roll was less than $10 at my local beauty supply shop (Sally Beauty Supply).

Vogue Fabrics in Chicago sells paper tracing rolls in 5 foot and 10 foot sizes.  It's a fabulous and huge fabric store in northern Chicago.  I was just there last Friday and forgot to buy a roll so my aunt is bringing one to our Christmas get-together.  Their website is http://www.voguefabricsstore.com/store/catalog/index.html and their phone numbers are 1-800-433-4313 or 1-847-864-1270.  Hope that helps!

Here are big rolls, the best price I've seen!  http://www.dickblick.com/zz105/05/ I live in Canada and even with shipping it worked out well.  I find freezer paper isn't always wide enough.  36" wide is the best!

dick blick is definitely a good source to try - i buy a lot of art supplies there.

you can also try: www.artsupply.com (they have rolls for under $5.00) or www.cheapjoes.com (they have the saral graphite in rolls).
