HuskyStar 219 tension adjustment

    HuskyStar 219 tension adjustment
    on: October 17, 2008, 10:53:32 PM

I need help with adjustments to my HuskyStar 219, bought new a couple years ago, no manual in sight.   First of all, I have it threaded properly, am using the correct bobbin, have the stitch set in a customary straight running stitch, and there are no missing parts.   When sewing a hem, for instance, the underside becomes a thick mass of knotted loops , the bobbin thread looks as though it didn't get picked up at all and can be seen running through the center of the mass of loops like a wick, then a couple of clunks, and the spool thread breaks just as the needle tip breaks off.  I've tried all setting for tension for bobbin and spool, but nothing helps.   I've broken four needles today, and have ripped out as many seams as I've sewn.   I feel like an idiot, I guess I'm dain bramaged because I can't  sew a simple straight hem.   I'm in the middle of making window seat drapes and valance, and have come to a dead standstill.  I'll try all of your suggestions for settings, adjustments, anything you have to offer, I'll appreciate your help.   thanks, Candace

You might have to take it in for a tune-up.  My machine was doing this no matter what I did to it as well.  I took it in and things were adjusted, oiled and set back to factory spec's and now she runs great.  It'll cost about $100 for service, but if you haven't taken it in at all in two years, it may need it.

I just got on to check with the same problem.  You'll have to let me know what you decided to do (I know this post is forever old and I'm only lucky if I get a reply).  I'm having the same problem, and I've moved my tension all the way up to 8 1/2 and it's starting to work.  Sometimes I have to rethread it several times (in seemingly the exact same way) and sometimes it'll start working agin.  So weird.  It really could be a problem with the model.

I had a similar problem with my Bernette.. I took it into to shop and I'm still waiting to hear what's going on with it. Lucky for me, it's still under warranty, so at least repairs will be no cost to me. I guess I'll update when I hear!
