Where to buy tea towels?
on: October 18, 2008, 11:32:57 AM
Hello! I want to make some tea towels like the ones on SMS, but I am having a tough time finding plain white towels. Target had flour sack towels which were just too big and too thin for my liking, and all their tea towels were colored or prints. I've also checked Macy's, but again the towels were all colorful or printed. I have found some online, but I just don't know about ordering them unless I know what sort of quality we're talking about. Any suggestions?? I'd love to hear some reviews!
Thanks,
Rachel

These are specifically designed for embroidery:

I use target's organic cotton tan colored tea towels. Usually they're near the plain/patterend ones.

Costco has them in bundles, so do K-mart and Wal-mart. Good luck.

My local craft store sells some really good ones. You can buy them online but they always seem to have them on sale for an even better price. I like the flat-weave ones better than the flour sack ones. I think these ones are 18" x 28"

I love the Martha Stewart white flour sack towels. I buy them at Kmart - they come in a pack of 4 for about $6 or so. They are much more substantial than other flour sack towels I have tried!

You can buy cotton duck fabric which makes great tea towels. And also 100% linen.

Moda Fabrics has tea towel fabric that is hemmed on two sides and comes on the roll by the yard. It is 15" wide and typically retails for around $3.50/yd. I've carried it in both off-white and white but it also comes in stripes. You could check out the Moda fabrics website and see if there is a store in your area that carries it.

What about cotton/linen blends? Do you think they would work well too?
