How to finish ribbon so it doesn't fray

I use a wood burning tool that I got from Michael's in a kit.  It is fast and works!  But you  have to keep it clean or it will leave a little of the "mess" on the ribbon.  I just measure out the amount of ribbon needed and use the tool to "cut" over a piece of glass from a 4x6 picture frame.
