Sewing for charity

My daughter was born with spina bifida, and the most heartfelt gifts we received were handmade blankets.  She recieved one that was crocheted, while she was in the NICU, and then received a prayer quilt made by church members, as she was having one of her surgeries.  There is just something about a blanket that makes everything better!  Also, wanted to hint that it would be great to get knitters involved with making large caps for children like ours that are born with hydrocephalus that do not fit in the smaller caps provided by the hospitals.

Here is a link to a site with a bunch of Humanitarian Aid patterns...

The patterns come from the LDS church.  There is a great big Humanitarian Center in Salt Lake City, Utah that accepts the items and then distributes them all over the world.  It's an awesome place!  We took our kids on a tour of it last year and I loved watching their amazement at the wonderful things the place accomplishes.

You could make things and either ship them to them or find some place near you that could use them.

      Hope this helps. Smiley

Oh, yes!  I've sewn for Craft for China and really enjoyed the process of giving.  Softies for Mirabel is also great, and the Toy Society is a fun was to give away your handmade toys in an unconventional way.  We actually had publishers contact us at the Toy Society to have our projects published in an upcoming kid's book!

On my blog you can find the direct links in my sidebars with all of the information that you need.  Sewing for charities can be rather addicting and I'm happy to do more ^_^
