Classes in Cincinnati?

    Classes in Cincinnati?
    on: October 19, 2010, 11:04:15 AM
I'm itching to take a class in something… and I sure could use to know more about sewing. I have very basic sewing machine skills (I can hem curtains and make pillows and stuff) But, would like to understand more about sewing from real patterns, terminology and what I can do with my sewing machine. Along with zippers and button holes.

Do you know of good classes in Cincinnati?

If not classes, books or other resources that can get me up to speed?

    thanks!

Sew to Speak in Columbus, OH has a great class line-up.  Very cute/trendy shop.  I drive 1 hour and 45 mins to get there and it is worth it.

I don't know of any shops in Cinci since I live in Central Ohio, but if you're somewhere between Cinci and Columbus, you might visit Westerville Sew-n-Save's (their site is http://www.wsewnsave.com/Index.html).  Now their website's calendar is not always current, but they always have a "sew-along" generally each month as well as a great techniques class where you can learn new things.  Then she offers specific classes each month, too.  For instance, I'm giving a class this month on the 20th on sewing (serging to be more precise) up a pair of biking shorts.  Now this is for those with a basic knowledge of serging, but there the owner is always bringing in new instructors in various things including crafts, embroidery, construction, quilting, and more for both the newer sewist as well as the "older" ones, too.  It's a very friendly atmosphere, and the owner is a hoot. -- Karen

There are a few more places that have sewing classes in the Cincy area.  SewEzy is in Sharonville.  Their website is not the best, but if you give them a call, they can tell you about classes.  Also, Jo-Ann in Mason offers classes.  Good luck!

I think Stitch Studio in Madeira offers some classes and I know she does private lessons.
