      All I can say is practice.  There's a lot of good beginner books out there like Amy Karol's Bend the Rules Sewing that have lots of small projects that don't take a lot of time or fabric but will teach you a lot of basic skills that will help you get better.

        Yes, practice!  When people ask me about learning to sew, I tell them that there are lots of books and classes that are helpful but just doing it is how you learn.  I have made lots of things that did not turn out well (and that still happens sometimes  Wink) but just sit down at the machine and practice.  And have fun!

          I agree!  "They" say it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at something!  Just keep at it and you will improve.
