Pattern for dog shirt with 4 legs? (preferably free)

Pattern for dog shirt with 4 legs? (preferably free)
    on: November 29, 2010, 08:03:32 PM
A friend asked me to make some shirts for his dog with four legs (the shirt should have four legs I mean) I bought a pattern but it only has two and I don't really feel like drawing one.  Anyone know of a free one I could download? Even a tutorial...I just am not up for drawing one right now Thanks.

I don't know of any and I haven't seen any come across the craft blogs. Your best bet is going to be a Simplicity/McCalls which you can sometimes get for 99 cents or $1.99 at the chain stores. You won't find that sort of thing for free because it just takes a lot of work. I have free tutorials on my site for little dog stuff, but I just posted the sizes I use for my own dogs - figuring out other dogs' sizes without seeing them isn't easy. And even creating those patterns took 10+ revisions to get it just right.

The problem is that every dog is different. Two 8 pound dogs are not even close to the same size. Designer dog clothes are usually sized by length (collar to tail) and chest size, and sizes vary even from brand to brand. What fits Doxie won't fit a Yorkie... there is no way that the big pattern designers are going to understand these subtle differences, so their patterns aren't that great and usually only come in like S-M-L for dogs 10-50 pounds, which is not enough sizes.

There are a couple books out there for making dog clothes but they aren't that great.

My best suggestion is to go buy cheapie pajamas (there are holiday ones out now at Target) and take it apart to make a pattern. Or tell your friend it's just not worth it and tell them to google "dog jogger" or "dog pajamas" You can get really good quality ones for $20. If they want to spend less than that, send them to Target.

      Sorry, wish I could help.
