Can I tie my quilt rather than quilt it?

Can I tie my quilt rather than quilt it?
    on: December 24, 2010, 08:42:11 AM
I know it's Christmas Eve and my chances of getting a response are slim, but I'm hoping someone will see this and have mercy on me.

I'm working on a quilt for my 93-year-old grandpa and I'm running out of time.  What are the rules and cautions about tying a quilt rather than actually quilting it (a task I know will be fraught today, as it's the eleventh hour and I'm at my parents' house and there are children running everywhere and I don't want them to see me cry!)?

Is it going to last as long and stay finished if I tie it?  What online resources do I have for help?

    Thank you!

      Have fun!
