Brother PE 770 - Help - have some questions????

Brother PE 770 - Help - have some questions????
    on: December 29, 2010, 10:42:45 PM
I am new to embroidery and recently purchased the brother 770 as I wanted to see what I could do. I would love to hear from someone who has had some experience with one. One design turns out well and then another design I have problems!!!
    Thanks,

I have a Brother 900D. Part of me knows I should be grateful to have an embroidery machine at all, and the rest of me hates the darn thing. You can't do anything important on it (like a polo shirt vs. just a plain piece of fabric) because guaranteed it will ruin it by either ripping a hole in it, breaking the thread halfway through the design (where you can't pick it up) or something like that.

So, yes, I have experience with the Brother embroidery machines. Can you be more specific about what the problem is? At least yours has a 5x7 hoop. That is a lot more usable than my 4x6 (really 4x4) hoop.

        Hi ERin,
        thanks for your reply.
The problem I was having was with the tension. I had some designs on my USB drive and could not get the design to stitch out properly. The thread would usually break. I have since played around with the tension and have figured it out. I do like the 5x7 size hope. I also have the HE 240 and don't use that one for embroidery anymore. I was just wondering if tension is a problem in stitching out designs? I wonder if anyone else can take a design downloaded from the web and stitch it out perfectly without making adjusting tension???
        thanks, ana

You can you really just have to sit and play with it, then once it's set it will be OK.  Also, it's important that you use the right kind of embroidery needle. Again this takes some trial and error but I found that helped tremendously. Part of the tension issues are because it's a drop in (top load) bobbin.  The stitch quality isn't as good as the kind with the bobbin case.  It still shouldn't be looping though.  Make sure you completely unthread and rethread both the top thread and bobbin when this happens, since the problem could be in either place.  I've also found that my needles literally FALL out half way through the design if I don't tighten them down with the little screwdriver that came with the machine.

You also have to use the right kind of stabilizer. Again trial and error. You might want to use 2 layers. Whether it's correct or not, mine does best with a layer of iron on SF-101 interfacing AND a layer of tear away stabilizer.

You'll be OK. Mine is a combo embroidery and sewing machine and it's much happier as an embroidery machine.  I ended up getting a baby Bernina for sewing and just use the Brother for embroidery.  That seems to work.  My sis-in-law likes to do embroidery and she comes over and uses mine and does OK with it.  It likes her better than me, I guess Smiley

            thanks Erin for your suggestions.
I have gotten much better now and I've gotten much better results. The trick was playing with the tension. I did change the needle ensuring it was an embroidery needle. I am sill trying to figure out which stabilizer is best but I was wondering about using interefacing. That is a good idea as I did buy some to see if it would help. So far so good things are better.
            thanks again,
            ana
would love to know of any projects you made with your embroidery machine?
