Bias Tape Maker Question

    Bias Tape Maker Question
    on: November 12, 2008, 06:31:08 PM
Which bias tape maker should I purchase. I notice there are ones that apply fusible web. I don't want to always use fusible web. Will they still work without the web or should I buy the regular ones? Sorry about typos etc I am having to type one handed, I hope my question makes sense.

Why do you want to buy one? I just fold the 2" strips of fabric in half lengthwise and then stitch the raw edges of the fabric and the binding with a 1/4" seam allowance. Fold the folded edge to the wrong side of the fabric and stitch in place. No gadgets needed.

I just make my own "tool" by putting a needle into my ironing board. Let me try to explain. I "sew" into my ironing board (without any thread in the needle) and make a little bridge that the fabric I am using to make the bias tape can go through. So the each end of the needle is secured onto the padded fabric on the board with a wide enough gap in between to slide the fabric strip through. (I have poked the needle up into the pad and back down, at two point far enough away from each other to slip the fabric under the needle). I fold the very end of fabric on the lengthwise sides to my desired width and "thread" it under the "bridge" I have made. As I pull the fabric strip through, it automatically folds the remainder of the strip. I press it as I go. (Press, don't drag and iron).
