Dumb Question

    Dumb Question
    on: February 19, 2011, 05:12:42 PM
Okay, I recently purchased a PDF pattern. The instruction say to tape the pieces together.  What kind of tape should I use to tape the pieces.  I know this is a dumb question, but is there a special tape that quilters or seamstresses use?

No, although you might want to use a scotch or some sort of see-through tape so that you can still see the pattern lines.
If it's a pattern that I think I may want to use more than once, I then trace the PDF taped-together pattern onto a single piece of pattern paper. Pattern paper rolls are usually wide and long enough that most patterns can be traced onto one sheet. It drives me crazy to have a taped together pattern if I'm using it more than once. Just my opinion...  Grin

Thanks so much for your response.  Okay, another question please.  I recently purchased a large roll of freezer paper. I know some people use it.  What is it used for?  I am such a newbie!

I use freezer paper as pattern pieces for patterns I plan to use more than once. I trace the pattern onto freezer paper, cut it out, then lightly iron it onto the fabric and cut out the fabric. I pull off the paper after I cut it to reuse another time. It's also good for applique quilting, but I've only seen others use it that way, I don't do applique work.

I use it for tracing pattern pieces, applique, hexagons, and stenciling...sorry, but typing one handed at the moment or i would write more!

I am a newbie too and thanks for asking that "freezer paper" question. I had never heard of it until now and I will definitely look out for some to use in future.

Hi There! I would definitely go with the see-through tape so you can see any pattern markings.  Freezer paper is great for sewing!  The shiny side sticks to the fabric if you iron it lightly, and cuts down on the pinning (which I dislike intensely), and it comes off easily.  You can also re-use it!
Have fun learning this great skill! Wink
