Sewing magazines

I had to wait for someone at Barnes and Noble the other day, so of course I went over to the mag section to check out any sewing magazines. I saw the current issue of "Stitch" (I think that's what it was called) and thumbed through. It looked pretty good and I might go back and get it. It got me wondering about getting a subscription.

What is your favorite sewing magazine and briefly what do you love about it!

I haven't looked at a lot of sewing magazines but I too really like Stitch.  So many modern things to make which is what I prefer.

My favorite sewing magazine is Sew Beautiful.  It comes out 6 times a year and has a nice balance of heirloom garments and "regular" clothes.  Some issues have more heirloom items...but that is fine with me.  It is by far my favorite sewing magazine.

You could also check out Threads magazine.  I'm not big on magazines, I just like to search online to see what I can find.

I have subscriptions to Threads and Vogue Pattern magazines.  I also have the Threads DVD archive, which is great for looking up anything whenever I want.  I want to get a Sew News subscription and a Stitch subscription.  What I like about the Stitch magazine is all the different sewing ideas, not necessarily geared toward clothes (which is why I have all the other magazines, I sew mostly clothes).  Stitch also includes patterns in the magazine.  I've picked up Sew Beautiful before and found it had more heirloom sewing than I'm interested in right now.  In the future, that may be another I subscribe to.  I have a couple back issues of Australian Stitches.  This one is also geared towards clothes and it is expensive to get in the U.S. so I don't subscribe.  I find that it covers the same things that Threads, Sew News and Vogue Pattern magazines cover so I don't see any added benefit in buying them.  Threads is more of a technique magazine but they also have great features where they use patterns in different ways other than according to the envelope instructions.  I like the Vogue Pattern magazine because I get a sneak preview of the upcoming pattern releases and they also show you many different ways to use their patterns. That magazine also has city shopping features (the selection of fabric stores/supplies in metro areas); handy if you travel a lot.
