sewing a slit without a seam???

sewing a slit without a seam???
    on: March 22, 2011, 10:39:34 AM
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to sew a slit into a skirt when there is no seam there.  I know you can do it if there is a lining but this skirt doesn't have a lining. I was thinking I could just cut the slit and do a rolled hem all the way around then do like a bar tack at the top to keep it from spliting further.  Can anyone tell me if that would work?  I would hate for the dress to split up all the way on her at the prom!

What kind of fabric is it, and what is the length of the dress?
Your idea would work if the top of the slit is not at a point where it will receive a lot of stress.  Hope this helps!

Why not cut it and turn it like you mentioned, but then add a little facing to the back like you do for plackets on shirts and dresses?
