SEWING FLATTERING BUTT

    SEWING FLATTERING BUTT

    Hi!
I've searched endlessly on this subject, but can't seem to get an answer.

Basically, I want to know what determines a flattering butt in pants. An example would be, 80's versace jeans. I know they tend to have a higher rise, and smaller waist. However, there's something about them that makes my butt (and other peoples, I've seen) look really good. Is it the inseam or...? A lot of pant patterns I've made with high waist don't turn out the same....is there somewhere I could take in the pants? Is it the center back seam?

ah, sorry if this is complicated.
    Thanks so much!

Ah--the holy grail...pants that fit.  That's a hard hard thing to find.  Basically, good fit in any garment is that it will fit you so that there's no extra tightness or bagginess anywhere.  That's not to say that your pants need to be super tight or anything--the fabric can skim your body without adding bulk.

For me, my back end is just a little flat, so I always have fabric that pools off the bottom of my rump--not so cute.  Because I'm petite, the knee in RTW pants is always in the wrong place which makes for some strange baginess elsewhere.  I'm in the process of working together with a group of ladies whom I took a pants fitting class with.  It's really helpful to have another pair of eyes help you figure out what to do and where to take things in or add to.  Does that all make sense?

I say if you've found a pair of pants that fits you, go with it.  There are a lot of tutorials you can find that will help you clone the pattern for a pair of pants that fit--and you don't necessarily have to take them apart either.  I have a friend who is 6' and she just made a pair of pants in such a manner and they look fantastic.

When I read your post, it reminded me of this article I came across a while back:
