sewing a notch-thread showing, bunching

    sewing a notch-thread showing, bunching

I'm making a jacket with a collar with notches in it (like lapels, I guess) and I follow the pattern exactly for the notches. When I turn the collar out, the notch is bunched or I see stitching. I've had the same problem with a shirt I made. Am I not clipping correctly? It just doesn't make sense to me! Any advice?

I just learned this the other day I swear! I really didn't believe that clipping all the way up to the seam line makes a difference, but it does- even when it's just a few mm.
Many people, like me, are afraid of clipping your seam allowance right up to the seam line, but you will automatically see the difference right away. Your fabric is bunching and you are seeing your stitches because when you turn, there isn't enough give and everything is getting pulled.
Be very careful and use sharp scissors to trim, but I promise that your notches will look so much better!

Thanks so much! It's so hard to visualize what's going wrong- once I trimmed it closer, and turned it inside, it did make more sense.
