Viking 6370 - Different Machine, Different Problem!

As another contributor posted a few months ago, I also have had my beloved Viking 6370 for 30-some years. I have never used a sewing machine quite like this one (probably my one gripe is its extreme weight - it's solid!). My mom still sews up a storm on her Necchi from the 1950s; I had hoped that likewise, this would be my one-and-only until I'm well into my 70s (15-20 years from now).

My problem: the gears are shot. The power is there between the cord and the machine, I can manually turn the wheel with no resistance. Just nothing moves when I press on the foot pedal. Took it to the best sewing machine repair place in the area - which has just changed ownership  :=(  This fellow said he couldn't get a hold of a replacement gear set, and even looked at another, older Viking that he had in the back room to see if he could cannibalize a gear set from that one, with no such luck. According to him, this otherwise wonderful machine is DOA.

My hubby is an amazingly gifted person who can fix absolutely anything, but this has him stumped, too. We still have the users manual that came with the machine, but don't have a repair manual. Do you have any leads for where we could order a repair manual? And, where would be the best place to order a gear set for it?

Thank you so much for any help you can give me. My mending pile is growing . . .

My Viking isn't 30 years old, but a mere 15.  A couple of years ago, it needed ajustment and I shipped it to Viking for factory service, which they did for FREE because it was still under its 25 year warranty.  Write them: VSM Sewing, Inc.
    31000 Viking Parkway

    or call and ask them.
