Gift ideas to inspire a quilter?

Gift ideas to inspire a quilter?
    on: December 08, 2008, 12:06:57 AM
I am putting together a Christmas gift package for a good friend and I would like some help please.
She is a quilter but admits it has been quite some time since she has given herself enough time to enjoy her craft.
I would like to make part of my gift package something to inspire her to take up quilting again.
I am simply not sure how to do that since I don't quilt (yet, lol).
    Any ideas?
    TIA.  Grin

There are a ton of great quilt books out there -- how about something about the Gee's Bend Quilters?  And a gift certificate to SMS!

It's pretty easy to satisfy a quilter, and I think you've had good suggestions.
Lately I have been in love with all the precut varieties, like layer cakes and charm packs.

A while ago I got my MIL a book about color, similar to this one: http://www.amazon.com/Color-Play-Steps-Imaginative-Quilts/dp/157120105X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1229706448&sr=8-1
The books has tons of inspiration and good principles of color and color-picking.

A small quilting project might be a good one to suggest. There are instructions for a quilted Christmas stocking at http://www.ezquilt.com/patterns/holidaystocking/holidaystocking.htm
Maybe you could print the directions and give the materials for making it.

As a beginner quilter myself, I will agree that fat quarters, books, and kits definitely help with the inspiration process.  I'd center it all around a theme or something if it were me.  Retro prints, Christmas, colours, etc.  Be creative, maybe it will spark your own inspiration to start a new project.

Add an embroidery hoop and some needles and thread to that package of fat quarters.  She'll love it I am sure.

Giving her a nice kit from a quilt store would also be good.  That way she would have everything she needs to easily get back to her favorite craft.

Anything would make me happy. Especially a gift certificate from my favorite shop. Rulers and cutting mats, scissors and rotary cutters are great to get. I also need a new pair of pinking shears.

Books and fabrics are where I find most of my inspiration ... right now I'm loving the Japanese take on quilting...there are oodles of books and magazines .... pair that with a charm pack and i know I'd be a happy camper

You can't really go wrong with fabric!

How about choosing a quilting class for her to take at your local quilt shop. Include a picture of the quilt that will be made along with the materials and the date of the class. I would love that!

Please include me in FFF. Thank you (:

Wow! These replies are inspiring *me* to want take up the craft. Thanks so much!!!

I have decided to buy her a set of fat quarters of Amy Butler fabrics (swoon!) and I'll add to that some hand sewing needles and some matching thread. Thanks to everyone for your fabulous ideas!

I'm also planning to make a little project pouch to fit it all in instead of using wrapping paper.
