Children's pajama pattern

    Children's pajama pattern
    on: September 21, 2011, 05:46:21 PM
I’m looking for a children’s pajama pattern for knits with a trim fit. Think: Hanna Andersson.

Ideally, something like this: http://sascharomeo.blogspot.com/2011/05/ottobre-pajamas-and-bottle-of-wine.html but easier to get than an old Ottobre. I KNOW that I’ve seen one like it from a small company or independent designer, but I can’t find it.

McCall’s 6428 is the best I’ve seen so far. Does anyone have experience with it or have another suggestion?

Really, Ottobre is probably the best bet.  They always have tops that can be used for pj patterns even if they're not pajama patterns per se.  You can get single issues on Ebay occasionally and on Etsy--they're pricey, but there are a ton of patterns in each copy, and they're all usable, so it's an investment for future projects.  Their drafting and directions are also excellent.

Oliver and S's Bedtime Story Pajama pattern is out of print, but it looks similar enough to the Ottobre pattern. O+S has a new pajama pattern out if you want to take a look at that.

"Growing Up Sew Liberated" by Meg McElwee also has a great knit pyjama pattern for kids.   (not to mention lots of other great projects!)

You've probably figured out a solution by now, but incase you are still looking for one, you can use a leggings pattern to make long john style pajama bottoms and use a tee [or tee pattern] for the top.  Envelope tees are especially easy.

Here are a couple of how-to's from my blog:

            http://www.johnnymangoseed.com/blogs/johnny-mango-seed-blog/5185532-making-leggings-with-heavier-knits

And I just have to say that rayon / modal / bamboo knits [see the first link] make the most delicious pajamas!  They breathe so well, and they are silky to the touch.  They're perfect for Spring-Summer-Fall weather, and can only be acquired by sewing them, as far as I know!

            Enjoy!

I just added a blog post about how to use my children's Leggings pattern to make long john-style pi's, if that would help:

It includes this YouTube vid on how to mimic a flatlock using a sewing machine:

There are some photos of some finished pj's on my FB page:
