Singer 1247

    Hi all,

I'm new to Sew Mama Sew and I am loving it! I have been sewing for almost a year now. My first machine was given to me by my Mother as a Christmas gift. It was a Singer Promise model 1409, and it was terrible. From the beginning it had tension issues, but since I was a brand new seamstress I had no idea what was wrong so I just ignored the problem. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when I took it into a shop and was told it would cost $100 to fix--more than the machine cost!

I went to a Goodwill near my city and found a Singer 1247. It is vintage--it looks to be from the 70's or 80's. I took it home for $15, cleaned it up, oiled it, adjusted the presser foot pressure and gave it a little TLC. It works great! The problem is, I haven't been able to find any kind of information about this machine's past existence. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about this particular model?  I'm just curious as to the year of production of this particular model.

Thanks to all for sharing your expertise, projects and patterns!

If it helps, this model is compatible with Singer models 965 and 966 as well, according to further research.
