Using interfacing to fuse peltex, versus using fusible peltex

Hi all,

I'm currently making the AB Blossom bag, and her directions call for one sided fusible peltex to add support to the bag.  Well, my local fabric store didn't carry the fusible stuff, only sew in, so I had to buy that.  My question is, since I've trimmed it in the seam allowance according to the directions, can I fuse it to the fabric using the lightweight fusible interfacing? Or will it have really bad puckers because it's not solidly fused to the fabric - only fused at the edges?  Is there anything I can do to adhere it, like basting spray? Or will that eventually come loose and start puckering?

I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea to fuse it to something else, but it's probably not worth your time.  As long as you're not planning to wash the bag, I think your idea of using a basting spray or another adhesive spray is probably a good solution.  Acutally, I think it's a better solution...I've never had much luck with the glue in Peltex--it does not like to fuse to much of anything.  Unfortunately as home sewers, it seems to be the best thing available for what it's trying to accomplish.

Ultimately, I decided to fuse the entire piece to the fabric.  I was going to use basting spray, but when I went to the store, I about died when I saw the cost of one can.  This purse is for a christmas gift, I'm trying to save money, not spend more, LOL.  Anyway, I bought the sheets of stitch witchery, cut it to the size of the trimmed peltex and fused it that way.  Then the piece of lightweight interfacing was fused on top of that, per the directions in the pattern.  It seems to have worked really well.  We'll see how it holds up I guess.
