Singer 301A

    Singer 301A
    on: December 19, 2008, 12:01:58 PM
After my 301A singer sat in the closet for 15 years I decided to get it out and see if I could fix it. A few years ago I sent it out for the second time and again it came back still broken.  The bottom case just swirled around.  I got this machine when I was 13, back in 1957.

I searched on line and found a fellow who had the same problem until he downloaded the oringinal instruction book. It was a simple fix. I just had to line up the bobbin case "foot" in a slot in the throat plate...wal la!  FIXED, and running like it did back in 1957!  I have always loved this machine. It's a real work horse. I also have a 221 singer, but it just doesn't have the guts of this gear driven machine.

My primary machine is a brown Singer 301a shortbed.  I adore that little guy.

I recently spent hours researching these older machines and I'm sold!
I think I've narrowed my next machine purchase down to a Singer 201...  Anyone have any experience with one?
