Applique question..

    Applique question..
    on: January 09, 2009, 01:02:32 PM
I want to do some applique on t-shirts, but instead of doing like a zigzag stitch to enclose the raw edged, I would just like to straight stitch just inside of the edges, so that they would stay raw, and fray a bit.

Is this doable? I mean, I know it just sounds simple, but I just want to make sure I'm not setting myself up for disaster Cheesy

i haven't done this but i have seen it done. it might make sense to use a light fusible piece that is slighly smaller than the applique and stitch thru this createing a "boundary" of sorts beyond which the piece will not fray.

        That makes sense, thanks Smiley

It certainly does work and looks awesome, I tend to shorten my stitch length and that seems to stop too much fraying.

Ok, great, I'll try that. Thanks Smiley

I totally love doing this and use a medium stitch and attach my appliques w/a fusible web (wonderunder, steam a seam) it looks awesome when it starts to fray a little. i think its easier to sew this way too! especially letters.

I'll definitely try it with some fusible web under it. Thanks y'all!
