Belt Notions

    Belt Notions
    on: May 28, 2008, 06:09:27 PM
When I was growing up, my mom had this awesome belt.  It was made of 1.5- or 2-inch elastic in a cool pattern and had these figure-eight-looking fasteners (meaning you never had any extra belt hanging off one side).  I've been looking and looking for belt buckles like this but can't find any.  Do you know the kind I mean?  You have to turn one to get it inside the other...  I like them because they make for a very low-profile belt.

Also, anyone know where you can get cool-looking elastic?

I'm determined to recreate this belt, at least somewhat.

    Thanks!

I get my vintage notions at thrift stores. If you thrift... just always check the craft supplies areas. You never know.

Crafters Vision has a lot of belt supplies..might check them out.  I'm thinking I have seen the figure eight clasp at Jo-Anns.

        Good luck.

You can always try Etsy.com as well.  If you find an elastic supplier on there, but not the kind you're looking for, you can always ask the seller if they know where to get some.  I've always had great luck with the sellers and they can usually track down what you need because of their contacts.  I recently had one find purse frames with flattened closures instead of the usual round ones.  It worked out great!
