how do you keep track of fabric brands/names?

Now that I've started a craft blog, folks are asking about different fabrics.  I'm going to try to remember to keep track, but I'm wondering if and how the rest of you keep track of the brand and name of a particular print.  I'm thinking of attaching a small piece to an index card and keeping them in a file or something.

Any ideas?

I think if you spend a lot of time reading blogs and fabric designer blogs, then you get used to a style and can say what designer it is.  Shopping online also forces you to learn names of designs and designers and that's how most things are organized. 

I know some people take pictures of all of their fabrics and upload to flickr with the designer & pattern's name to keep track.
