serger problem

    serger problem
    on: January 23, 2009, 03:19:56 PM
OK, i was sewing away as happy as can be and then i realized that my serger wasn't stitching anymore, it was just making jumbles of thread. I stopped sewing (baby was up anyway) and later rethreaded the thing 20 different times. messed with the tension, used previous tips, cleaned out the lint. After 2 days of fiddling, i got the needles to make their stitches, but the loopers still aren't working working right. Any hints? Really don't have the money to take it to the shop, and a growing list of clothes to sew! Any hints, please???

It could be that your loopers have wiggled loose. I read somewhere that it's a simple matter of tightening up the screws.
I just bought a used serger and had to do some maintenance on it before I could get it to work right.
Oh, and for my serger I have to literally "saw" the thread back and forth to get it into the tension discs correctly.  If I try to skimp on this step, I always get those darn loops as well.

      Good luck.  Undecided

Thanks, I'll try that tonight. Caved and called a repair place, said they would look at it tomorrow and quote what it might take to fix it. *sigh* i hope i can fix it! Thanks again.

I hope you can get it fixed without too much expense!  I just got a new serger for Christmas and I get "loopy" results when I forget to put the presser foot down...   I am used to using my sewing machine and keep lifting the presser foot even when I don't have to  and then I forget that it's up!!

            good luck

They wanted between 125 and 150 to fix. And hubby only paid 200 for the machine! Isn't that crazy? Mom knows a friend who can do it on the cheap. SO machine is taking a road trip  when i go visit them next!
