Teddy Bear from old Simplicity pattern

Teddy Bear from old Simplicity pattern

I made a teddy today to match the quilts that I posted about yesterday.  Both can be seen here:  http://duringquiettime.blogspot.com/.  The teddies are just so much fun and each seem to have a personality.  I am not sure that the pattern is still available.  I am guessing that I bought it about 7-8 years ago.

Oh, do try it!  They are so much fun but I warn you, they are addictive!  I was realizing (with the help of my husband's memory) that I actually got that pattern 10 years ago when my nephew was born!!  It is fun to see that it is still on display in his house too.  Post your picture here if you make one.  I'd love to see it.

            those are darling!
is the wee elephant from the quick book?

I tried a little lamb, but it came out so wimpy - what is your trick to get the bears stuffed so perfectly? My lamb's legs were all wobbly......

You should post a picture of the old bears Smiley

The two bears in the lower picture are the "old" bears.  They have been slept with and carried around and washed repeatedly for a few years.  I have pictures of many of the bears that I made in the past from the pattern.  Perhaps I should dig them out...that would be fun.  I don't feel like I have a stuff trick except to keep stuffing even when you think you have stuffed enough.  I got the wee elephant pattern from Joelle Hoverson's Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts.

Great looking bears! You've inspired me to make a bear, he came out really cute but I like the cut of yours better. Question, does your pattern show you how to use several fabrics or will I just need to figure that out? Thanks.

No, the pattern doesn't show them all patchwork like mine.  I just make them that way because I like the look and I don't always do it the same way.  For instance, sometimes one leg will be all one fabric and the other leg another or each will be half and half.  I just do whatever is pleasing and works with the scraps that I have.  I try to not use fabrics that are too busy for the face so that the eyes and nose show up.  And, I like to use special scraps like something fuzzy or bumpy or silky for the ears and paws when I can.  I will have to dig up the pictures of my other bears and post them to show other possibilities.  Warning, they are addictive!

I agree, i'm find out how addictive they are. Would you mind explaining a little about how you put together the different scraps? I have not been able to wrap my mind around it yet. I'm still pretty new at sewing but I'm dedicated. Thanks.  Smiley

I started hunting around and can only find pictures of three other bears.  I thought that I was really good about photographing them but maybe I wasn't!  I posted those that I could find here and will add to if it I find more:

I am not sure how to answer your question about using scraps.  But I will try.  The pattern that I have has you cut several pieces:  the back of the head is two pieces, the three pieces that comprise the face, each ear is made of two pieces, the body front is two pieces, the body back is two pieces, the arms and legs are two pieces each and then there are the paws.  I usually go through my scraps and come up with pleasing combinations of colors and patterns and then see which pattern pieces fit where.  I try to keep things somewhat even like both inner arms match and the outer arms match.  Likewise with the legs.  I made a quilt for my daughter and cut off scraps that were pieced.  I used those pieced scraps to cut from as well.  So if you look at my original post at the pink and green bear, it is a bit different from the rest.

I hope that helped a bit.  If not, feel free to leave a comment on my blog with your email and maybe I can try to explain in more detail.

I hope you will share your pictures when you are done!

Ok, now I finally get it.  Shocked LOL. I didn't understand how because my pattern has only two pieces to cut out, the front and the back (2 fronts and 2 backs). Now that you explain, it makes much more sense. Thanks!
