What fabrics work best for dish towels?

I would like to make my own dish towels (something snappier than the regular old white towel with a bit of embroidery).  I'm not sure what fabrics would work well.  Suggestions?

I'm not positive but it would have to be cotton & durable. It will have to stand up to alot of washing.

In a couple pattern books I own, I've read that lightweight cotton or linen work well for dishtowels.  I think you could use just about anything out there so just find something with a design you like and double it if it feels too flimsy to hold up to kitchen-towel standards.   Wink
