You can definitely do it.  There are some nice "easy" patterns that can look very fancy with some high quality fabric and some detailing added.

I made this Christening gown using a basic Simplicity pattern.

Just do it! I made my wedding dress myself and I’m so glad I did. After not sewing anything more complicated than fitted cloth nappies for years I was a little bit afraid of the task. But I looked into some shops and found nothing I liked, or could afford. It was not always easy and I had a lot to unpick, but in the end it was worth it. I got the dress of my dreams for 120 EUROS and everybody complimented me.

My mom made my 1st communion dress and I still remember how proud I was, looking like a little bride. I told everyone that my mom made the dress and she was glowing with pride, about me and the dress.

I’m sure you can do it and your daughter will love the dress, no matter what!

The communion Dress you make will become the family heirloom.  Try also to make the veil to match. The little girls around here love their doll to have the matching outfit.

Michelle, me and lina, a friend of mine, tried sometime back following the tips at http://www.ehow.com/how_6639588_create-communion-dress.html. after trying a couple of time, we could come with a cool design. this was with an idea to send lina's niece who stays in Antwerp, on her first communion. Sad thing is, we lost it on our way to courier it and as we didn't have enough time to create it again, immediately carried out a research, googling, and luckily we landed on a great-pick store http://www.JustCommunionDresses.com and ordered. cool that lina's niece liked it.

we did really have a nice time sewing and also, were so excited to see the final outcome. but bad luck. we couldn't see someone wearing it. no matter. can think of for my hubbies niece who has her first communion next month.
