Do you have pics?  Links?  I have fabrics picked out and some sewing time planned this weekend!...

Hi, I'm new here Smiley  I ran across the tutorial the other day and have been wanting to try a small quilt project, so I jumped in. I made a log cabin square hot pad when I was in middle school, and did a little bit of hand quilting on other people's quilts, but that was with my mother's help. This is my first solo quilting project.

I got my fabric cut out tonight: http://www.flickr.com/photos/paperspirit/3258699129/

I'm planning on sewing the top together tomorrow.

I started mine. Its my first quilt and I really like how it's turning out.

Any ideas what to do to decorate it? I was thinking of embroidering 2 different kinds of leaves on the tan squares, but that might take too long.

I think that embroidery would look great.  The fun of embellishment is that it's all "right" and you can just have fun with it.  Love your finished top by the way!

I've got a link to mine here... I've actually done the quilting now too and an appliqued bird, but that's not done quite yet.  I had to do the quilting before I could do the embelishment, so I'm a bit ahead!

I just made my top - I went with oranges and pinks.  I made mine smaller since my daughter's doll is pretty tiny.  I'm looking forward to the next step since I have never done the "quilting" before.

I started mine recently - it's going pretty well - I posted about step one - cutting all the pieces - the other day. It's almost all pieced and ready to sandwich. I'm not doing any embellishing since I used many funky prints.

Here's my entry about it  http://kindredcrafters1.blogspot.com/2009/02/quilting-along-with-sew-mama-sew.html
I'm really excited to get to the quilting step - not sure if I'll attempt free motion or go straight - I did pick up the parts recently for my machine to be able to do free motion  . . .

A doll quilt is the perfect way to try something new like free motion!   It's a nice small and manageable way to start.  Your quilt looks like it's gonna be super cute!

They all look so cute!
I ended up putting leaves on all my tan squares. It took way too long, but it turned out awesome Smiley

I guess I should make my quilt sandwich now.

edit: Oops, I guess I can't direct link it from blogspot.

Thanks Alissa.  This is such a nice easy project for a sew along.

I have my fabric picked out but nothing started yet, I have some bags that I have to finish first.

I have never machine quilted before and looking forward to starting, just one really basic question though, what type of tread should I be using?  My Mom used to hand quilt and used special quilting thread, do I use the same for machine quilting??
