    Kindergarten Classroom Project Ideas??
    on: February 06, 2009, 10:02:44 AM
My daughter's kindergarten is looking for a project that they can do that would involve the entire class AND be sell-able in a parent auction.  I've come up with a group quilt and greeting cards.

    Any other ideas???

Greeting cards would be cool. Check out www.oneprettything.com - they post a lot of kid-friendly crafts.

I've got a ton of ideas! I worked with this age group coordinating activities, so there's a lot I can think of---
A group collage or painting- everyone brings a picture, or cuts out a picture, makes a picture, etc to contribute...
Little bowls or plates, even magnets- clay, then bake, let them paint...
Tshirts or sweatshirts or small blankets that the kids paint or embellish with fabric paint, beads, sequins, etc.
Fabric Collage- each kid draws a flower or something on a small scrap of fabric, decorates it, the teacher cuts them out, they are fabric glued onto a larger piece of fabric and the whole thing is either framed or finished off into a blanket or if you use canvas it can become a rug...
Christmas ornaments- out of beads or whatever
With Easter coming up, an idea might be to string fake flowers together into garlands for decorations...
        Embellished candle holders
        Coffee mugs that are painted...

Most of these can be done on a limited budget like I was working with... good luck!

In the past seven years I have taught kindergarten, and have also run a preschool and an elementary school and am always looking for fundraising ideas.  So far the best income-creating auction items have been the quilts - they are just such a special project and keepsake.  I have made several of these over the years (one of the years that I ran the preschool I actually made 6 in one year - one for each class) and have tried different themes and ways of putting them together.  If you want some ideas that way, let me know!
Another project that was a great seller (although it wasn't an auction item) was a class cookbook.  It doesn't sound exciting at first, but, what made it special was that every child had two pages.  The first page was a typed-copy of the student's favourite recipe, accompanied by the child's drawing of what the dish looks like.  The second page was the recipe in the student's own words.  This by far was the best part!  It was so sweet to read how the children thought the recipes were put together!  I wrote down exactly what they said, verbatum, so each child's personality really came through and made for a lot of laughs and smiles on behalf of those who read the cookbook.

          Good luck and have fun!
