Great Sewing Book

    Great Sewing Book
    on: May 01, 2008, 11:42:25 AM
Since this is Women's clothing month, I thought I would share a great book that I have recently used to make some skirts. The book is called Sew What! Skirts http://www.amazon.com/Sew-What-Skirts-Fabulous-Fabrics/dp/1580176259 and it is very helpful in learning how to make your own patterns based off of your body measurements. It has plenty of different styles, and all of the skirts are fairly easy. The pictures and instructions are great, so check it out from your library, buy it or borrow it because it is really helpful!

I got this book last month and it looks like so much fun!  I haven't had time to try anything out yet, but it's high on my To Do list.

I've been eyeing this book.  I'm wondering though... being a girl of curvy proportions, can a plus size girl use this book?

I definitely think that people of all shapes and sizes would be able to use this book because you make the patterns yourself, based on your own measurements. You can also decide where you want the skirt to ride (ie. hips or waist), and also how long you want it.  There are various skirt styles in the book, so depending on what you think looks good on you, you could make a bunch of a single style skirt in various prints and colors.

I've had this book for awhile and have been wanting to try it.  It is really well done.  Thanks for reminding me that I really should sew myself something using it.

I don't own the skirt book, but I do own the "Sew What! Fleece" book and love it!  It really makes creating your own patterns an easy process.  There are some really nice clothing items in there too, if you like wearing fleece (which I do!)

I love this skirt book. I tried using store bought patterns and ended up frustrated because nothing fit right. Everything I've made from the book fits because it's made with my own measurements and there's nothing better than a piece of clothing made just for you!

I bought the Sew What! Skirts book last year.  It's great...I just pulled it off the shelf recently to plan some new summer skirts!

I have had the same problem with store-bought patterns. I am kind of one size in some places and a smaller size in others, so I would either have to make it too big and take in the parts that were too large, or just not use the pattern at all. I've found with the skirt book, I can make the skirt and it fits perfectly the first time I make it.

I borrowed this book from the library and liked it so much I ordered it for myself for Christmas. I made the wrap skirt. It was easy to sew and I have gotten compliments on it. I highly suggest this book too!

Not sure if my image link will work or not - I posted it in my blog - so here's a link to the blog page too.

I think I'm up to about eight skirts, all made with the pattern I drafted using tips from this book.
